Micro-Sims/Iphone 4/Data Capping and the role of the Ipad
So everybody is getting their knickers in a twist about O2 data-capping , so much so that’s there is talk of a data ‘outing’ attempt on the 24th of June! Sort of defeats the object of complaining about lack of access if you ask me. Anyway that’s not the point of this post.
It may have escaped your notice but over the last couple of Months there has been a worldwide release of a thing called the Ipad. Also there has been an announcement of the new Iphone 4 with ‘FaceTime’ video calling ( over WiFi only at the moment ) and an ability to record HD video and share with YouTube after editing in Imovie4 of course
so potentially a lot of data shuffling to be had over the Carriers networks.
The obvious thing to spot in this is the fact that the Carriers are capping the data usage because when the Iphone 4 is released it will be supplied for the first time with a Micro-Sim which strangely enough will fit in the Ipad 3G whose data tariffs are not the cheapest on the planet it has to be said, so hence being able to move your ‘unlimited’ data allowance from your Iphone to your Ipad in one foul swoop of your Micro-Sim is not really going to be liked by the data carriers as you will only be needing ‘one’ contract/PAYG deal.
So maybe that explains a little bit as to why the Carriers have throttled the unlimited data , oh and also the fact that the networks are ‘falling’ over with the amount of data they’re having to move with rise of THE Smartphone that they all clamoured to get hold of.
So when your picking which Carrier to go with make sure you pick the carrier who may provide you with your data requirements over the length of your phone contract.
